FIVE THINGS FOR A FRIDAY
HIGHLAND DANCING
One of the things that came out of the Highland Gathering last year was the idea to support a Highland Dancing Class – and it happened at the Wildside this week HIGHLAND DANCING CLASSES KICKS OFF! | 19 April 2023 | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)
Plans are underway for the next Highland Gathering which looks like it will be bigger and better this year.
EDUCATION GRANTS SUCCESS
We asked some of the students who had benefitted from the Student Grant to tell us about their story – you can read some of them on the website Student and Training Grants from the Trust | 18 April 2023 | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY…
We have been working on the budget for next financial year and we’ve been asking groups to give us an indication of what they need over the next one to three years. The Community Action Plan has, of course, changed the goalposts when it comes to what and what will not be funded in the short to medium term. There is so much activity it is hard to keep up! We have also been advising groups on what external funding is available and how we can help apply for that too. Alongside all that we have to take a longer term view about the needs of the community identified in the CAP and the local place plans and many people have been actively working to make this happen. Some exciting announcements ahead if they happen!
LOCAL PLACE PLAN
The consultation period has now ended and I will be meeting Nick Wright and his team to understand next steps. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the process – from knocking on peoples doors in hard to reach areas to people in other areas keen to get their voice heard. We have a fantastic picture of the community, what it may look like in the future and where you want us to put the resources available to us. Better still it is YOUR plan, as defined by you. Some things you will like. Some things you might not. But it has been a great conversation for the community to have.
SUN IS SHINING
What a great week it has been with temperatures soaring. Its nice to see people out and about after what seems like a long winter all burrowed away working on projects with a backdrop of soaring heating and food bills. The Trust was able to give some support (thanks to an army of volunteers) which I am very happy about. Things are due to improve but it will be a slow process so as part of our budgeting we are working on one or two ways we can help next winter too. We are also planning a car boot, local food, and table top sale on the second Saturday of the month in June / July / August and September. This will help bring a few pennies in to local people and businesses. If you are interested please do get in touch with me at tony-ceo@sfctust.org.uk
