FIVE THINGS FOR A FRIDAY

JOINT MEETING

The Community Council and the Community Trust are meeting on Wednesday 15th May at 7pm in the Wildside to go through the Community Action Plan and Place Plan to discuss where we (and other groups) are with the objectives you identified to take forward.  You can watch proceedings, which are scheduled to take an hour, and then ask questions or join the Steering Groups on projects you are interested in during a short social we will have afterwards.

RIVERSIDE STEERING GROUP

We had a positive first meeting of the Riverside Steering Group who will help build up the Business Plan for the Sports and Recreation facilities at Riverside.  This has been a major priority of the community since 2013, this was re-emphasised by your representations in the Community Action Plan / Place Plan and survey done around the planning application and it is why the Trust Boards (over the last 11 years) have been tasked with delivering it for the community.   Subsequent to the meeting I had a very positive discussion with one of the stakeholders who can help and support this project and others we are working on so great news.

WALK ON THE WILDSIDE

The Wildside team have been working with various groups as we move slowly out of Covid lockdown and back to some reality of volunteers wanting to help deliver objectives identified in the CAP.  Improving our surroundings is important and since we purchased the land at Thain Road nearly a year ago we have been encouraging our neighbours to remove any risks and tidy up the land.  As owners of the land we didn’t want to act like a laird and remove people from using the area but at the same time we felt everyone would want to give it a tidy up.  This has been slow but is happening and we encourage our neighbours to finish the job.  In Wildside we have been working on the new PlayPark (just waiting for the grass to grow now kids!), encouraging users at the PolyCrub and environmental  / bio diversity work at the Wildside Centre and surrounding areas, including Thain Road.  This is very encouraging to see people taking ownership of the facilities in a positive way.  Next financial year we will have to consider replacing windows and bringing toilets up to scratch which isn’t as sexy, but required all the same.

HOUSING

One of the priorities in the CAP was affordable housing and thanks to Scottish Government funds and a partnership with Communities Housing Trust we will have between us four affordable homes in place by the end of the year.  We progress this week on that, which is quite exciting as community homes can take several years to develop (in truth this project has taken several years and we are coming in the back of it).  It will be an interesting experiment to see if this partnership can help deliver many more homes in the area.

CARE
