The South Loch Ness Heritage Group was established in 2003. Our aims are to research, promote and safeguard the heritage of the South Loch Ness area, including Stratherrick, Strath Dores and the south side of Loch Ness from Dores to Scaniport and Cullaird.

Our membership is free and open to anybody living in the South Loch Ness area. Non-members are always welcome on our Facebook page and at any event that we organise.

We think that we are lucky to live here because the area has a rich cultural and natural history that is second to none in Scotland. We would like to share our enthusiasm, so we have established this page on Facebook to spread the word and to serve as a source of information in respect of our ongoing projects and the events that we organise.

Our events are usually free and we aim to make them educational, interesting and fun. They are open to anybody, whether you live in the South Loch Ness area or are visiting from somewhere else in the UK or the world.

We welcome people of all ages and from all backgrounds and we are always keen to hear from people with historical information or artifacts pertaining to the natural or cultural history of the area.

Details of events are posted to our Facebook timeline, so please 'like' us to ensure that you are kept up to date.

At the moment we organise three public meetings each year, two with guest speakers.

Speakers can cover a very wide range of subjects and we are always looking for new subjects. Please do get in touch if you have a talk that you can deliver or if you have heard a presentation that you think will be of interest to the group.

We also organise occasional field trips - we have led guided tours of to the Fraser Yew and the Iron age hill fort at Dun Deardrail - and we intend to expand our repertoire to include other activities. Suggestions for new events are always welcome!

Does your family history mention Stratherrick, Gorthleck, Whitebridge, Errogie, Foyers, Dores, Boleskine, or any place-name on the South Loch Ness Map?

Is your name Fraser, Grant, MacGillivray, MacGruer or MacTavish?

These are some of the names of the old families of this area and we would be delighted to hear from anyone who thinks they may have such historical associations with South Loch Ness.

You may have information of interest to us, and we may well be able to reciprocate by sending you an old photo of your ancestors' home or some information about a distant relative.
