Riverside Community Conversation - Thank you

SFCT would like to thank everyone who has supported the conversation around the future of Riverside Field, and especially those who attended the meeting on Thursday 2nd April at The Hub in Lower Foyer

Riverside Community Conversation - Thank you

SFCT would like to thank everyone who has supported the conversation around the future of Riverside Field, and especially those who attended the meeting on Thursday 2nd April at The Hub in Lower Foyers.

From that meeting, two clear ideas emerged:

Community Growing Space

Strong support was shown for keeping the field as natural as possible and using it for gardening, growing food, tree planting, polytunnels, and wider community resilience.

Leisure Facilities

Ideas included a gym, swimming pool, and sauna. While this option also received support, it was backed by fewer people on the night.

As a result, a Community Garden Steering Group has now been formed. Their next meeting is at 6:30pm on 9th April at Foyers Bay Country House. Everyone is welcome.

Since the meeting, several community members have also come forward in support of leisure facilities. We are therefore also helping start a Community Leisure Steering Group, which will meet at 7pm on Wednesday 15th April at The Wildside Centre, Whitebridge - More info will follow.

At this stage, nothing has been decided. These groups are being formed to help shape strong ideas, which will then go to the SFCT Board in May 2026 for review and prioritisation.

We are committed to a process that is fair, transparent, and focused on the best outcome for the community.

To share your thoughts, ideas, or concerns, please email pc@sfctrust.org.

Statement from our CEO

Statement from our CEO

The Trust is pleased to announce a new category of grant we offer to support local community groups and individuals, particularly farmers who reside in the area. After lengthy consultation with Highland Council, Stratherrick and Foyers Community Council and local nature groups and, in pursuit of our Action Plan themes – Community Life and Getting About, we have agreed to establish funding to make our roads safer and reduce the annual toll of road kill of farm, domestic and wild animals.

The new grant category, Animal Protection on Roads In our Locality, will cover both the cost of high-visibility (hi-vis) gear for animals and funding for local groups or individuals to establish ‘hunting parties’ to capture and dress the animals. There is wide evidence that hi-vis gear for animals such as vests, collars, and harnesses, increases safety in low-light conditions by using fluorescent colours and reflective materials to make them visible up to one mile away.

Commonly used for dogs and horses, these products prevent accidents on roads, particularly at night, in fog, or, in our case, rural areas. The Trust has negotiated with a major supplier (Fluorescent Oils and Oil-based Laminates) to extend their range of hi-vis gear to include products to fit an increased range of animals including sheep (various sizes), cattle, hens, pheasants, deer (Sika and Red), pine marten, red squirrel et al.

Grants of up to £100 are available with 50% given up front and the remaining 50% on receipt of photographic evidence of the hi-vis gear in situ.

We trust that you will embrace this initiative to make our local roads and fauna safer and brighten up our amazing nightscapes. Full details will be posted on our website shortly.
